Yesterday I took both my parents to a small dinner at a Chinese restaurant in Tirana. Actually, it was my favorite Chinese place where I go at least twice a month to eat with friends. It is not such a great place, but since whenever we go we are a relatively big group, that restaurant has turned out to be great for socializing in those numbers.
Anyway, the purpose of the exercise was two folded. I wanted to do something nice for my parents, especially considering the fact that I had promised my mom I would take them there, over a month ago, but had not been able till yesterday.
The other reason was so I could expose them to a new experience in culinary terms.
The reactions I got were as follows. My mom did not think much of the food, but was more intrigued by the fact that the person serving us, who at the same time is one of the owners of the restaurant, is an Albanian lady married to a Chinese person.
My father, instead, thought the food was good enough.
I was aware of the fact that they would not adjust very well to this new experience but nevertheless I was willing to explore it. In the end, despite the fact that my mom did not think of it as the greatest experience, I know that she will have something to talk about in the days, weeks and months to come.
Now, that is worth it!
