Hey Elvis…watching CNN at the moment…

Today I got an email from a friend of mine whom I went to school with. We have not been in touch that much since we graduated back in 2003, however, she was very kind to think of me and ask how the current developments with Kosova and Serbia were impacting me and my family.

The truth is that here in Albania we do not feel the same impact that our Kosovar brothers may feel at this time. We do follow the news and may get somewhat saddened by what we see happening in Serbia and specifically with the recent riots that have been going on in Belgrade. However, the impact for Albania is almost non-existent.

The only thing, which surprised me, is the fact that Serbia has already closed its Consulate in the country, thus denying Albanian citizens its visa services. However, for me the decision is just a sad one!

My hope is that things will cool down and that Serbia will not come under the control of extreme nationalists whom would in turn ruin the country’s future integration hopes in Europe and beyond.
