Yesterday I found myself working till late to finish daily chores. It’s not uncommon but yesterday I had good reason!
I spent a couple of hours outside participating in a civil protest in front of the Prime Minister’s Office building with other concerned citizens. Our protest was about the ongoing construction of a major building complex with 17 or 20 stories high apartment building that will be located at the food of the lake’s dam. The problem with such a construction project is that it is being built at the only public area lake where such constructions are truly forbidden. This is not just my opinion but that of true experience in various fields and industries.
However, I did not take time out of my day just for me. Nor am I writing this post early this morning half-a-sleep out of sheer enthusiasm!
I did it for my own conscience as a citizen and as a father whose child has almost no open spaces left in Tirana where he can play outside freely. Open spaces, full of grass, trees, etc.
It’s a disparate time and situation in which we find ourselves here in Tirana. It’s nothing new and nothing old what is happening, but at least I know that something can be done, therefore I choose to go out and protest, again!
For those concerned and wanting to follow this up, there a Facebook page where you can find updated information, though it is only in Albanian.
