The rainy season is finally here. Despite it being mid-autumn (November) the weather in Tirana has been unbelievably warm and sunny. So much so that you could mistake it for spring.
An often quoted verse by our famous writer Kadare, says: “Ca pika shiu ranë mbi qelq. / Për ty unë befas ndjeva mall. / Jetojmë të dy në një qytet, / Dhe rrallë shihemi sa rrallë..”
The gist of that phrase talks about the feelings of longing and remembrance that the advent of autumn brings to one’s mind. It obviously talks about missing someone, but it is a romantic feeling aroused in many ways by the weather itself.
However, despite all the various warm fillings that the season of autumn can bring, the fact is that if you live in Tirana then you cannot escape the feeling of frustration!
It is a constant feeling and harsh reality with which you have to deal with every day. Chaos is reality and it is so almost everywhere you go. Cars and people are everywhere, and that is nothing unusual. But once it starts to rain then it all gets even more “interesting”, meaning frustrating! But I have decided I would like to look at it in another way.
The reason I titled this post “dancing in the autumn” was because of a simple idea that popped in my mind as I was walking outside in the rain. Walking the streets in the rain is nice, but once you add in the effect of puddles full of water, then you get some almost entertaining shows, where people are jumping around, which brings to mind the oft-quoted song & clique “dancing in the rain”.
